La Jolla Playhouse was recently acknowledged with a gift of $1 million from theater aficionados and philanthropists Rao and Padma Makineni.
“We were extremely appreciative and proud that the Makinenis chose to provide us such a generous gift,” said Steven B. Libman, managing director of the Playhouse. “Their name will now be placed on our third rehearsal studio, one of the three rehearsal studios where our art is created.”
The Play Development Center, which will bear the couple’s name, will be made a part of the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Center at La Jolla Playhouse, a site where most opening night celebrations are held.
“The Makinenis have a passion for research and development, and La Jolla Playhouse is known around the country for research and development of theater,” Libman said. “The Makinenis Rehearsal Studio will be known as a rehearsal studio that is dedicated to the creating of the finest in theater.”
