A 75-year-old woman drove over a raised median in La Jolla Shores and over a sleeping man before continuing on to park her car, San Diego police said.
The serious injury incident happened shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday on the 7900 block of La Jolla Shores, police said.
The woman, behind the wheel of a 2004 Lexus SUV, was parking at the parking lot at 2206 Torrey Pines Road when she stepped on the gas pedal, police said.
She drove over the raised median and over a 50-year-old man sleeping on the grass there, SDPD officers said.
She continued onto La Jolla Shores Drive, where she re-entered the parking lot and parked her car, police said.
Witnesses later told the woman she drove over someone, according to police.
The man was taken to a local hospital with pelvic, spine and rib fractures. He is listed in critical condition.
The incident is under investigation by SDPD’s Traffic Division.
