The La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) School girls basketball team came up one step short of punching its ticket to the state finals this weekend.LJCD dropped a 48-35 decision last Saturday, March 11 to Windward High in the Southern California Division IV Regional Championship. Windward moves on to this weekend’s state championship game.The Lady Torreys reached the championship game by beating Oaks Christian from the Southern Section 64-40 and then by traveling to west Los Angeles and playing against Marlborough, where LJCD won 67-59. In the championship game with Windward, LJCD played stifling defense, holding Windward’s two Division I players to 20 points. Unfortunately, the shots of the Lady Torreys were not falling. LJCD’s Janae Fulcher ended the week with a total of 37 points and 32 rebounds, while senior Ashley Booker had 27 points.
