A 72-year-old man accused of stabbing a woman near Belmont Park in 2014 has been returned from a state mental hospital and is facing a Sept. 20 preliminary hearing.
Doctors at Patton State Hospital determined that Terrance Alphonce Behan regained his mental competency after receiving treatment and psychiatric medications after being committed to Patton in April 2015.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Joseph Brannigan also determined Behan had regained his legal competency and resumed criminal proceedings recently.
Behan is charged with assault with a deadly weapon in the July 18, 2014 incident in Mission Beach and making a criminal threat to another woman that same day. A motive for the incidents has not been specified. He has pleaded not guilty and remains in the George Bailey Detention Facility on $200,000 bail.
