A judge on Tuesday sentenced Alan Lester Mabrey, 46, to 20-years-to-life in state prison after a jury convicted him Oct. 20 of second-degree murder and drunk driving in the Feb. 7 death of Emily Dowdy, 24, of Pacific Beach. Dowdy was struck in a crosswalk as she walked home from her job at a Starbucks store in Pacific Beach. San Diego Superior Court Judge Charles Rogers imposed 15-years-to-life for the murder, and added five years consecutively for Mabrey having numerous prior convictions for drunk driving. Mabrey was also convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Dowdy was struck as she crossed Mission Boulevard at Reed Avenue and was pronounced dead at a hospital from blunt force trauma.
