Authorities have publicly identified a 62-year-old surfer who died after he was pulled from the water during the 21st annual Luau and Legends of Surfing Invitational at La Jolla Shores on Sunday, Aug. 21.
Francis Noe Todd was seen laying on his surfboard in the water, then floating face down as the beachside fundraiser for the Moores Cancer Center at UCSD was under way near Scripps Pier late Sunday morning, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
Todd was pulled from the water and taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he was pronounced dead shortly before noon, authorities said.
The medical examiner’s office did not immediately disclose the cause of death.
