On a Tuesday I looked out a front window and saw a city worker going down the street reading water meters. The next day, I looked out a back window and saw a San Diego Gas & Electric worker reading my gas and electric meters. As he left, he passed by my water meter on the way to my neighbor’s house. If the city of San Diego, wants to save money, then contracting out the reading of water meters to SDG&E is a good place to start. We should be able to cut the cost of water-meter reading by 50 percent or more.
