An Ocean Beach surfer was bitten by a shark off the coast of Bali, Indonesia April 25, riding to shore before passing out. The family of Ryan Boarman, 26, said Boarman was waiting for a wave when a 6-foot-long shark, likely a bull shark, bit his elbow. Nearby surfers took Boarman to a hospital, where Boarman underwent hours of emergency surgery. The shark had bitten through to the bone. Family members are hoping to get Boarman to Singapore for the remainder of his care. Boarman, who attended Spring Valley’s Monte Vista High School, is a master diver and an ardent surfer.
