Warren-Walker students put their hearts into it
Warren-Walker School will play host to both physical fitness and community outreach during an annual American Heart Association fund-raiser set to take place at the school today, Valentine’s Day.
The event, beginning at 10:15 a.m., is part of the school’s Jump Rope for Heart campaign.
“Parents, students and faculty will all be jumping,” said Caroline Fisk, Warren-Walker School’s director of admissions and community relations.
The event will mark the last day of the school’s contest to earn money for the Heart Association. Last year the school’s 250 students raised almost $20,000, ranking Warren-Walker 12th in the country for the fund-raising event.
Students and faculty are hoping to top that number this year by showing the little school’s emphasis on big character.

Point Loma senior to
compete in pageant
A Point Loma woman will be among the entrants of the Ms. Senior San Diego Pageant, set to take center stage at the Balboa Park Club, 2150 Pan American Plaza, on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Jean Margaret Jones, a Peninsula resident who won the Ms. Senior West Los Angeles last year, will join this weekend’s competition.
Jones said the pageants help women over 60 keep an active lifestyle.
The pageant is free and will showcase the talent and beauty of women over 60 who have entered the “age of elegance,” said pageant director Marilyn Kohler.
Contestants will be judged in several categories, including personal interview, philosophy of life, formal attire and talent.
“This is really not a beauty contest,” Kohler said. “It’s the inner beauty and the qualities and talents that our seniors have always had and still have.”
The top three winners of the Ms. Senior San Diego pageant advance to represent San Diego in the Ms. Senior California Pageant on Sept. 14 at the Rose Center Theatre in Westminster in Orange County.
Winners of Ms. Senior California go on to represent California in the Ms. Senior America pageant on Saturday, Oct. 25, in Atlantic City.
Kohler said the contestants enjoy the chance to perform on stage during the talent portion of the show.
“They just radiate when they’re up there,” Kohler said. “We’ve created a monster now, and they all want to enter.”
