Excellent police work stops burglary suspects
The following is a copy of a letter to Mayor Sanders.
Last night, my husband was awakened by the sound of broken glass, and as I phoned the police, was able to witness a burglary of our car parked on the 7800 block of Via Capri, on the north side of Mt. Soledad in La Jolla.
Police responded immediately and were able to apprehend two 18-year-old male suspects. There were rubber gloves and burglar tools in the suspects’ possession.
Via Capri is the steep and curvy road the leads down from the monument on the north side of Mt. Soledad. As you know, we have been having problems with heavy cut-through traffic and theft (such as last night’s car burglary) associated with that traffic pattern.
We greatly appreciate SDPD’s recent increased enforcement to assist us with our neighborhood’s problems. Last night was an example of their excellent police work.

An open letter to the people of San Diego:
What a disgusting spectacle!
We are witnessing the shameless targeting of City Attorney Mike Aguirre in the most bizarre and transparently phony campaign ever! Aguirre is the truly unique, honest, fearless, brilliant and hard-working advocate the people of San Diego have ever had.
It is the same “public servants” and their cronies who have been at the center of the fiscal scandals who are now determined to shift the blame for all city problems to Aguirre. And the mayor and the Union-Tribune are happily joining in.
People of San Diego, don’t let the slander fool you. Stand up for Aguirre!

Kids naturally understand
Kevin Faulconer, my council member, has come across as supporting the need to protect the seals at Casa Beach, but he hasn’t gone far enough. Children love the beach and the ocean. They love to play in the sand and wade in the surf.
However, at Casa Beach in La Jolla, kids feel differently. The youngsters are fascinated by watching harbor seals in their natural environment. They do not want to go down to the beach when they know that doing so will scare the seals. Kids naturally understand that the seals need to rest for a certain amount of time each day and need a place to call home.
Casa Beach is a natural treasure and educational opportunity for children, as well as all visitors and tourists. Anyone who has seen seals fleeing into the ocean when a human approaches knows that shared use does not work. The seals need our protection. I would like to urge council member Kevin Falconer to support creation of a marine sanctuary at Casa Beach. At the very least, he needs to support having the rope-line up year round. The seals need protection 12 months a year, not just during pupping season.

Bad timing for kangaroos
When kangaroos in Australia are killed for their skins, the joeys are often yanked from their mothers’ pouches and stomped to death. If Senate Bill 880 passes, Californians will be contributing to this slaughter ” and to the decimation of the entire species.
This nasty bit of legislation would make it legal to sell kangaroo skins in this state for the first time in 37 years.
The timing couldn’t be worse for kangaroos: Their populations have dwindled to the smallest they have been in a decade.
Although the bill is only supposed to allow the sale of skins from non-endangered kangaroos, this restriction will be impossible to enforce. People who kill kangaroos hunt at night, when it’s difficult to distinguish between endangered and non-endangered animals.
Please contact the Senate Natural Resources Committee before it votes and ask committee members to oppose SB 880. For more information, visit PETA.org.
