Chabad holds holiday services at Catamaran Chabad of Pacific Beach is holding Rosh Hashanah beginning Monday, Sept. 29, at the Catamaran Resort Hotel, 3999 Mission Blvd. Candle lighting is scheduled at 6:18 p.m. on Monday followed by evening services at 6:30 p.m. Morning services begin at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30. Tashlich service is at 2 p.m. Evening services are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. followed by the candle lighting at 7:17 p.m. Morning services begin at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1. The services will blend traditional worship with contemporary messages. Hebrew-English prayer books will be provided. A Tashlich community walk is also planned. Chabad of Pacific Beach will also hold Yom Kippur services Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Bahia Resort Hotel, 998 West Mission Bay Drive. Chabad of Pacific Beach is located at 1558 Hornblend St., #4. *** Courtyard Concerts return to church Christ Lutheran Church is hosting its second installment of its acoustic Courtyard Concert series Friday, Sept. 26. The featured performers are Peggy Watson and David Beldock. The music begins at 7:30. Tickets for the concert are $15 or $10 for seniors and students. Coffee, soda and dessert items will be available for purchase at the event. For reservations or information email [email protected]. Christ Lutheran Church is located at 4761 Cass St. *** Dive school hosts lobster catch contest While the commercial lobster season begins Wednesday, Oct. 1, recreational divers get a head start on catching the crustaceans when their season begins Saturday, Sept. 27 at 12:01 a.m. For the contest, divers can bring their lobsters to Ocean Enterprises from the start time through 1 p.m. Saturday, where the lobsters will be kept alive in tanks for judging. Because the largest lobsters have the best chances of survival and breeding, Ocean Enterprises is encouraging participants to release the big catches or donate them to the lobster breeding program at Birch Aquarium. Ocean Enterprises is also holding two free lobster hunting classes at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26. A dive lights seminar is also scheduled for 7:30 p.m. the same day. On Saturday, Sept. 27, Dr. Kobayashi and Chef Kai from the cooking show “Kai Food” will lead a class on lobster cooking from 11 a.m. to noon. Ocean Enterprises is located in Clairemont at 7710 Balboa Ave., Suite. 101. For information call (858) 565-6054. *** Family Bingo Night spells a good time B-I-N-G-O spells a fun night of games at St. Paul’s Lutheran School’s Family Bingo Night Saturday, Sept. 27, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Players will have the chance to win a variety of prizes, including movie tickets, a basket of DVDs and gift certificates. The school will sell concessions starting at 5 p.m. The cost is $1 per game. St. Paul’s Lutheran School is located at 1375 Felspar St. For information call (858) 578-5976. *** Kids hit the waves for Jetty Kid Kontest Space is going quick for the Jetty Kid Surf Kontest, planned for Saturday, Sept. 27, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the the South Mission Beach Jetty parking lot. The contest is open for boys 15 and younger and girls 16 and younger. Sponsored surfers are not allowed to enter. The contest is free to enter. Food and refreshments will be given to the kids throughout the event. The free contest was created by a foundation by Keith Noel, who was known as the “jetty kid.” Noel he converted his small house near San Jose Place in 1978 into a clothing shop named Keith’s Klothes Kastle where he sold Hawaiian shirts until his death in 1995.
