Wave House will host flowboarding tourney
The Wave House at Belmont Park is hosting the Collegiate National Flowboarding Championship Saturday, April 21. Wave-riders from local university surf teams, including San Diego State and University of San Diego, will demonstrate their skills on the Wave House’s Bruticus Maximus, which creates a 10-foot, barreling continuous wave.
The competition begins at 2 p.m. with finals at 7:30 p.m. For information, visit www.wavehouse.com.

Walsh to play ball at Stanford
Bishop’s School senior Colin Walsh has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Stanford University.
Walsh will join the Stanford University Cardinal team next year. Walsh, currently the captain of the The Bishop’s School’s team, plays shortstop. In 2006, he was named to the first team All-Coastal league.
He was also the team defensive player of the year in 2006.

Day at the Docks offers reel family fun
The San Diego Sportfishing Council will again host families and guests to celebrate the start of a new fishing season at the 28th annual Port of San Diego’s Day at the Docks on Sunday, April 22.
The event will take place at the Sportfishing Landings in Point Loma, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to Katherine Miller, event producer for the San Diego Sportfishing Council.
Day at the Docks reels in the start of the spring fishing season with a full day of events, including activities for children and boat rides around the bay.
The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available and a double-decker shuttle bus will be on hand to transport participants to the docks, Miller said.
“It’s a big event. I think all of Point Loma feels the impact,” Miller said.
The event begins with the welcoming of the Sea Adventure 80, which departs Saturday, April 21, at 9 p.m. and returns to the port between 7 and 8 a.m. the next morning, Miller said. Sea Adventure 80 should return April 22 with the first catch of the season, she said. Last year, the haul included albacore and blue fin tuna.
Day at the Docks will feature free seminars on preparing a fresh catch, and sportfishing enthusiasts can also participate in casting contests, knot-tying competitions and enjoy marine-themed artwork, Miller said.
The event will also feature several musical ensembles.
There are still spaces available on the Sea Adventure 80 for those who wish to be part of the seasonal event. Tickets for the Sea Adventure 80 are $180. For information visit www.sportfishing.org.
