The National Association of Letter Carriers have joined forces with America’s Second Harvest for the 16th annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

Chef pleads guilty to vehicular manslaughter
A chef who works in Mission Beach pleaded guilty Tuesday to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in the death of a homeless man who was killed after the driver crashed his car on the Interstate 8 onramp at Ingraham Street near Sports Arena Drive.
Alexander Aziz Fatoohi, 23, faces a sentence that ranges from probation to 10 years in state prison, said Deputy District Attorney George Modlin. Investigators initially thought no one was injured in the crash until they found the body of Donald Wall, 60, underneath the vehicle.
Modlin said Wall had been sleeping in the ice plant and was crushed in the Nov. 3, 2007, incident. San Diego Superior Court Judge Michael Smyth dismissed two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and set sentencing for July 9.
Fatoohi’s attorney, Russell Robinson, couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday, but earlier he described the incident as “an absolute tragedy.” In court documents, Robinson wrote the on ramp to Interstate 8 was difficult to negotiate because it caused a driver to make a hard right turn onto the freeway and it was engineered too tightly.
According to court documents, the night of the accident, Fatoohi was celebrating a job promotion with co-workers, which is why he was drinking. Fatoohi has no alcohol dependency problem and has abstained from alcohol since, said his attorney.
Fatoohi, who lives in El Cajon, remains free on his own recognizance on condition he attend two Alcoholics Anonymous meetings per week.
