La Jolla JV cagers see action
The La Jolla High junior varsity girls basketball team went 1-1 last week to put their season mark at 8-9 overall and 4-5 in league play.
The Lady Vikings fell to Scripps Ranch 45-23 in their first game of the week. Lilly Sedaghat led La Jolla with nine points, while Maria Olea had four points and nine rebounds in the losing effort.
“We didn’t play poorly today ” we just didn’t shoot very well and Scripps Ranch did,” La Jolla High head coach Gary Frank said. “It was just one of those days where the ball didn’t bounce our way.”
La Jolla came back strong in its second game of the week, topping University City 37-22. Onezia Berotte led the way with 11 points, including a team record 8-for-8 at the free throw line. Anna Parma and Sedaghat chipped in with eight points each.
“This was definitely our best game of the year,” Frank noted. “It all started with our defense; the girls did a great job of shutting down UC’s offense. It was an outstanding team effort by all of the girls. We are definitely beginning to peak at the right point of the season”

Beach tennis showcased
