Now in the organizing stage, those interested in helping with registration, set-up, cleanup and concessions should contact Eleanor Snyder at [email protected]. Inaugural alumni football game set for May 18 A first-ever alumni football game is being planned for May 18 at PLHS as a fundraiser and to generate interest in the upcoming season. While final plans are still being developed, the game will be a flag-football format. Pointer alums should follow the “PLHS Football ‘EMAP’” page on Facebook, or contact football booster secretary/treasurer Melanie Duarte ([email protected]) for more information. 1973 championship team to be feted Point Loma High baseball boosters are planning their big annual fundraising event. The Pointers 1973 CIF championship baseball team will be saluted on the 40th anniversary of its accomplishment. The event, at the Bali Hai restaurant on Shelter Island, takes place April 26, with tickets priced at $75 each. Proceeds will support the coaching staff, field management, uniforms and equipment needed by the varsity, junior varsity and freshman AAU teams at the school. Team members include Jim Harvey, Tom Evans, Tom Pike, Jeff Carlile, Paul Contreras, Steve Lingley, Jim Murray, Steve Grimes, Mark Connors, Cornell Hill, Brian Sillano, Terry Greaves, Steve Vargas and Gary Beck. Also needed are auction items. Contact Martha Stauderman ([email protected]) for more information. Previous booster events honored alums David Wells (2010) and Don Larsen (2011), both of whom pitched perfect games for the New York Yankees. Canoe, kayak event slated for April 6 The San Diego Canoe Kayak Team (SDCKT), based in Mission Bay, is hosting a racing event on a local Olympic course. The 2013 Silver Blade Regatta takes place Saturday, April 6 at the USA Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.
