Adding another jewel among its collection of local lodgings, the Pearl Hotel, a midpriced boutique resort, is set to open its doors on Sunday, Aug. 15, in the historic district of Point Loma.
Currently in its late stages of construction, the hotel will be located one block from the San Diego Bay at 1410 Rosecrans St. Some longtime local residents may remember its structure originally as the Sportsman’s Lodge Motel, which catered to visiting fishermen for many years.
Owned and operated by L.W.P. Group, Inc., The Pearl will include 23 designer rooms which incorporate contemporary and vintage-modern elements, a poolside lounge and theater, a bar and restaurant, according to hotel officials.
Using a motto of “Down to earth, up with style,” rooms will reportedly start at $159 per night.
San Diego Native Arron L. Reynolds was recently named as the hotel’s first general manager. Reynolds counts more than 10 years’ experience working in the hospitality industry, including Loews Coronado Bay Resort and the Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Downtown, according to a short bio released by hotel officials.
“It feels really, really good. It’s an excellent opportunity for me. This is my first time as a GM,” said Reynolds.
L.W.P. Group CEO Gregory Strangman said Reynolds was the best fit for the position because of his understanding of the company’s philosophy.
“Probably the biggest core value is customer service ” guest satisfaction,” he added.
Of what’s planned for the hotel in terms of style and culture, Reynolds explained, “It’s going to have that hip element to it like the Gaslamp District.”
Strangman said he is excited to be building his business in Point Loma.
A resident of Ocean Beach, he explained that his background in both hospitality and real estate led him to open the hotel.
“I really like the Point Loma community and I think it’ll be a good opportunity,” Strangman said.
He also noted that he was drawn to the property because of its midcentury, modern architecture.
Strangman said the Pearl Hotel will strive to set itself apart from other San Diego accommodations with the level of service it plans to offer.
“I guess if I could sum it up, I’d probably say, ‘More bang for your buck.'”
Another unique vision Strangman said he has for the hotel will be that locals will frequent it too.
“With most hotels, people are coming from out of town to stay there,” he said.
“We’re hoping that local people will consider us one of their destinations for a place to go.”
Strangman said he’s counting on the hip atmosphere, bar and restaurant serving “a California menu” to serve as enticement.
