Shores Assoc. affirms anti-paid parking
The following letter was sent to District 1 Councilman Scott Peters and to Mayor Jerry Sanders.
This note is to clearly and unequivocally reiterate the La Jolla Shores Association’s (LJSA) opposition to the La Jolla Parking Advisory Board’s (LJPAB) Pilot Parking Plan and paid on-street parking in La Jolla.
Last night [April 10] during the regularly scheduled and publicly noticed meeting of the La Jolla Shores Association, it came to our attention that earlier in the day Promote La Jolla, during its regularly scheduled meeting, had passed a motion “To support the findings and recommendations of the Parking Advisory Board based on the specifics of the Pilot Program passed in September 2007.”
First we want to point out that this plan was never approved or even voted on by LJPAB.
Secondly, while PLJ is certainly within their right to support the preliminary findings, as LJSA has stated our opposition, we want to clearly state that the citizens of La Jolla Shores do not support this plan nor do we support on-street parking.

Jim Heaton, Chairman, The La Jolla Shores Association

Reinstate the community plan
Scott Peters is suggesting that the La Jolla parking plan be tabled. A better suggestion might be that the parking plan that he is referring to be totally eliminated and our former community plan, which served us well for many years, be reinstated.
In 2005 a small group of people had the city manager change our community plan to a Parking District which allowed a Parking Advisory Board to form.
The public was unaware of this until the latter part of 2007, and then an amazing grass-roots movement developed which plainly showed that the vast majority of La Jollans are against paid parking.
Scott Peters has been a leader in the parking plan, which he now contends that he neither supports nor opposes. His mind is obviously easily changed.

Betty Hosie, La Jolla

Sand dollars photo is priceless
My thanks to you and Judith Lea Garfield for sharing the award-winning photo of “sand dollars on the march” (Village News, April 3, page B-1). It was most unusual and truly awesome in every sense of the word.
I have never wanted to dive underwater but to see such a sight I could be tempted.
My hope is that this unique photo will inspire and remind others that even though nature still holds much hidden and undiscovered beauty, we must treasure what we have and save, care for and preserve it for future generations.
Florence Lambert, La Jolla
