La Jolla High spikers net victories
The La Jolla High boys volleyball team has served up some winning efforts in recent weeks.
After taking second in the Maui Invitational early in the season, La Jolla made school history by winning its own Beach City Invitational earlier this month.
Senior Matt Jones (outside hitter) was selected Tournament MVP, while Dillon Lesniak (outside hitter) and Tyler Heap (setter) were both selected to the All–Tournament Team.
Without dropping a beat, the Vikings then finished a perfect first round of Western League action last week by defeating Francis Parker (25-22, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22) and Saints (25-21, 23-25, 25-17, 25-15).
Heading into this week, the Vikings are 6-0 in Western League and 15-1 overall.
In other Western League action, University City High dropped a 25-19, 25-16, 25-10 decision to Francis Parker last Thursday.
In Coastal League action last Wednesday, The Bishop’s School fell in three games to Santa Fe Christian by scores of 25-19, 25-19, 26-24.

La Jolla High girls track splits meets
The La Jolla High girls track team went 1-1 in recent action.
In a 73-64 loss to Scripps Ranch, the Lady Vikings had 23 personal records and seven season bests.
In an 89-47 victory over Our Lady of Peace, La Jolla set 20 personal records and had four season bests.
Kylie Henry was a double winner in both meets.
At the recent Arcadia Invitational, La Jolla’s Nihal Kayali broke her own school record in the 1600 that she set one week ago.
She placed second in the mile with a time of 5:05.02, which converts to 5:03.42 for the 1600.

Vikings baseball sweeps Clairemont
The La Jolla High baseball team (11-4-1, 2-0) swept a pair of games from Clairemont High last week.
In the first contest, La Jolla provided pitcher Patrick Christensen (5-1) with plenty of run support in a 9-0 victory.
Senior shortstop Trent Jemmett was 2-for-3 with a home run and a double, Peter Sefton was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, and Wyatt Hoff went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI.
In the second contest, La Jolla scored a shutout again, this time a 7-0 decision.
Jimmy Filter had four hits and two RBIs, while Stephen Foster added a pair of hits. Hoff pitched five innings, striking out eight.
“We performed well in all three phases of the game (pitching, hitting and defense),” La Jolla High head coach Gary Frank commented. “We have a talented team, and they are working very hard to improve themselves every day. The sky is the limit for this team.”
