Scholastic baseball teams saw good and bad results in diamond action last week.
La Jolla High went through an up-and-down week and came out of it with a 13-6-1 overall record and 3-2 in the Western League.
The Vikings opened up the week on a high note as they defeated Mission Bay, 6-3.
Patrick Christensen threw six innings to earn his sixth victory of the season, while Wyatt Hoff struck out the side in the seventh to earn his second save of the season. Jimmy Filter was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Trent Jemmett and Robbie Beathard each had two hits for the Vikings.
In a rematch with Mission Bay, La Jolla dropped a 4-2 decision. Stephen Foster went 3-for-3 in a losing effort.
In an 8-7 extra-innings loss to Point Loma, La Jolla jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first when Filter and Peter Sefton hit back-to-back home runs.
La Jolla fell behind 7-2, only to rally back and tie the game at 7-7 before the Pointers scored the game-winning run.
The Vikings finished the week off strong by beating crosstown rival La Jolla Country Day School, 14-2.
La Jolla used a 17-hit attack, punctuated by four home runs by Filter, Hoff, Austin Miller and Julian Velazco. Sefton pitched five strong innings in his first career start to pick up the victory.
“When our focus and concentration is strong, we have one of the best teams in San Diego,” La Jolla High head coach Gary Frank remarked. “We just have to continue to work hard to improve our preparation and our focus, and we can definitely be one of the elite teams in the city.”
Elsewhere, The Bishop’s School (10-3, 2-0) recorded a pair of victories last week.
In a 7-6 win over San Dieguito Academy, Cade Sears went 3-for-3 with two homers and four RBIs, while Damien Tschirn picked up the victory.
Bishop’s also scored a 15-2 victory over Francis Parker to end the week.
Heading into play this week, Sears leads the team in hitting with a .548 average, 23 hits and 16 RBIs.
Pitcher Raj Dharmapal sports a 4-1 record with a 2.07 ERA and 32 strikeouts.
Finally, La Jolla Country Day School (12-8) scored Coastal League wins last week over Francis Parker (4-1) and Horizon (10-1).
In the win over Parker, Mike McKenna drove in a pair of runs and Kyle Reese picked up the victory.
In the victory over Horizon, McKenna knocked in four runs, while Brandon Belew and John Hansbrough each added two. Greg Wisenberg got the win on the mound.
