With The Rock Church nearing completion, the congregation is teaming up with local businesses and officials in an effort to ease traffic problems in the Point Loma neighborhood bordering Rosecrans Street and Liberty Station.
"We have taken well-thought-out measures to reduce the anticipated traffic in order to satisfy residents and churchgoers as the new facility is expecting to host thousands of visitors," said Miles McPherson, president and founder of Miles Ahead and the Rock Church.
“Addressing concerns from Point Loma residents, The Rock Church has been working alongside the City of San Diego, the San Diego Police Department, the Corky McMillin Cos. and the Liberty Station Community Association to devise a comprehensive traffic and parking plan," said McPherson.
In addition to church volunteers, ACE Parking and the police department will be directing and monitoring all parking.
Furthermore, traffic lights along Rosecrans Street will be adjusted to move cars efficiently in and out of Liberty Station.
The comprehensive parking and traffic plan also encourages church attendees to utilize the variety of entrances to enter Liberty Station.
Primary parking will be located in the lots that line Historic Decatur Road.
With traffic monitors and no-parking signs positioned at the entrances to residential areas, residents will notice that best efforts are being given to decrease unwanted traffic, added McPherson.
"A top priority with the new development is safety and satisfaction for the residents," said McPherson. "We plan on being part of this community for a long time, and if we can help with traffic-calming measures while enhancing the area, we’re happy to contribute."
The Rock Church’s grand opening will be celebrated at the new Point Loma location on Aug. 26, with a total of five services. All Sunday services will be held at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Located in the heart of Point Loma at the newly developed Liberty Station, the Rock Church and Academy is within a 15-minute drive to the airport, downtown San Diego, the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, the beach and bay parks.
There are also four major colleges and universities within 10 miles of the most technologically advanced venue in San Diego.
The future home of The Rock Church is located at 2277 Rosecrans St. Take Interstate 5 to Interstate 8, head west and take the Rosecrans Street exit.
The property is on the corner of Rosecrans Street and Womble Road. For more information, call (619) 226-7625, or visit www.therocksandiego.org.
