More than 350 artists, six entertainment venues and hundreds of art-loving guests will gather on the streets of Little Italy April 27-28 for the Mission Federal ArtWalk, San Diego’s largest outdoor fine-art festival featuring artwork, dance and musical performances and an interactive KidsWalk area with art activities for all ages. Several local artists will display their talents at the event: Art and design one-stop-shop — La Jolla resident and interior designer Stephanie Malcolm will team up with ArtWalk to create an interactive experience helping art buyers with their purchase decisions. Malcolm, of Room by Room Inc., is creating a virtual home at the event complete with furnishings, lighting fixtures, textiles and more where guests can bring artwork to see if the piece might suit their home. Paintings for a laugh — For more than 25 years, La Jolla resident David Wiemers has written and produced some of Hollywood’s top comedies, including “Coach,” “Major Dad,” and “Jim Henson’s Muppet Babies.” Now retired from the industry, Wiemers brings his comedic vision to viewers through his vibrant and eccentric pop culture oil paintings. Nature-inspired art — Lifelong artist Irene Wetsman will display her talents ranging from pen-and-ink drawings to sterling-silver jewelry studded with high-quality, semi-precious and precious stones. All of Wetsman’s handmade creations emphasize natural elements or designs related to wildlife, nature and traditional culture. Jewels with a La Jolla touch — Jeweler Laurel Nation’s tent will feature semi-precious stones of all kinds, pieced together with embellished accessories. Nation incorporates freshwater pearls, glass, Swarovski crystals and the like to create classic, elegant jewelry. For more information about ArtWalk, visit www.artwalksan-diego.org. Art a la Carte brings ArtWalk to La Jolla In conjunction with San Diego’s biggest art event of the year, The Aventine, 3777 La Jolla Village Drive, will help bring the festival closer to La Jollans and UC residents throughout the summer with “Art a la Carte,” a monthly pop-up food and art series produced in partnership with ArtWalk San Diego. On the first Sunday of each month through September, artists and food lovers will come together to dine on delicious fare along “restaurant row” and stroll amid the work of many of the area’s most noteworthy artists, performers and musicians at the street festival-inspired event. “We’re excited to add this element of entertainment to The Aventine,” said Travis Gorzeman, manager of The Aventine. “And we are proud to partner with ArtWalk to present this creative Sunday evening experience.” The next Art a la Carte will take place on May 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.aventine.com.
