Police seek suspect in house-party shooting
Police are still looking for the suspect in a May 3 shooting at a house on the 1400 Diamond Street. According to police reports, the residents of the house were having a party when an altercation broke out.
Police said a man described as a dark-skinned white or Hispanic man fired a small-caliber handgun four or five times, hitting two men. Det. Gary Lawrence said one of the men lived at the house and the other was a guest.
Lawrence said one victim was hit in the upper back and the second victim was hit near the knee. Both were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Crime Stoppers offering reward for suspect info
San Diego Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information to help identify a suspect involved in a Jan. 27 robbery at Mission Bay Liquor, 1580 Garnet Ave.
According to Det. Gary Lawrence, the suspect took merchandise but not cash.
Images of the suspect, described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, approximately 5 foot, 10 inches tall and 200 pounds with a mustache, were captured on the store’s surveillance cameras. According to Crime Stoppers, the suspect assaulted the clerk during the robbery.
Police are asking anyone with information to call San Diego police officer Jim Johnson at (619) 531-1500, or the anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
Air up the tires for Bike to Work Day
If exercise and fresh air isn’t enough incentive to leave the car parked and hop on a bike, a $4 gallon of gas is definitely a nice motivator to switch to pedal power.
For first-timers, the timing perfect: Friday, May 16, is Bike to Work Day, and cyclists will receive a number of perks for trading four wheels for two, including free snacks and refreshments at the more than 40 pit stops around the county and the chance to win a number of prizes.
“[Participants] have the opportunity to win a number of gift cards to REI, zoo and Wild Animal Park passes and Bike to Work Day T-shirts,” said Colleen Windsor, communication director for SANDAG.
Anyone with a bicycle can also ride city buses and the trolley for free that day.
Pit stops will be set up at Fiesta Island, Old Town Transit Center, San Diego State University, UCSD parking lot P406 at Gilman Drive and Villa Jolla La Drive and La Jolla Colony at 7708 Regents Road.
For information and a full list of pit stop locations visit SD511.org.
