The 6th annual Pacific Beach Town Council (PBTC) Wine Tasting Event will take place on Sunday, June 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Chateau Orleans, 926 Turquoise St.
“Every year our goal is to have more people attend this fun event,” said event chair Inese Pavars. “Last year we had around 70 people, and this year I hope we will have at least 100.”
Many wine tasting gatherings simply offer crackers and cheese to accompany the beverages. According to Pavars, the PBTC event strives to create an entire experience of which the wine is simply part of the fun.
The event will also include delicious New Orleans-style cuisine prepared by Chateau Orleans and chocolates from the Chocolate Haus, 947 Turquoise St.
Two wineries are involved “” both from Temecula ” Falkner Winery, which is known for its cabaret wines, and Wilson Creek Winery, which is known for its champagnes.
“Wilson Creek Winery will be providing almond champagne which is extremely popular,” she said.
During the course of the event, attendees will be able to enjoy live blues music.
Yet the event is defined by more than just great food and drink. Through a silent auction, raffle and ticket sales, proceeds go toward supporting local programs and efforts aimed at helping young people.
“After last year’s event we donated $2,000 to the Pacific Beach Recreation Center,” Pavars said.
“That donation allowed them to revive their Halloween Carnival which, due to budget limitations, they had been unable to offer to the community.”
Pavars notes after the event revenue has been tallied, the board of directors meets to decide how to allocate the money.
“Our purpose with this event is to find ways to help the youths in our community,” she said.
Services and products for the auction and raffle range from Padres tickets, gift certificates to local restaurants, car washes and many other items, all donated by local businesses. The grand prize in the raffle is a beach cruiser bicycle.
“You can spend a little bit of money or a lot of money or just the admission price and you will have a great time,” Pavars said. “It is a wonderful way to enjoy a summer evening with your friends, make new friends and support the community.”
Tickets are $30 per person and available at the PBTC office in the Union Bank Building, 1706 Garnet Ave. For more information call (858) 483-6666.
