The Golf Shop at Torrey Pines has unveiled its Freestyle Adult Golf Clinics program this spring.
World famous for its seaside golf courses, annual PGA event and upcoming 2008 U.S. Open, the golf staff at Torrey Pines now hosts six events each week in a super-flexible program designed for adults with busy lifestyles.
Most programs require their students to commit to a set of clinics conducted at the same day and time of the week and with a preset formula for skills development. Miss a class in a program like that and you’re out of luck.
Contrast that “old school” approach to the Freestyle program at Torrey Pines that offers affordable, multiple-clinic packages that give the student the choice on which day, time and skill to work on.
Students can choose to attend several clinics over a short period of time or across several weeks; focus exclusively on a certain skill like the power game; or follow a more traditional development roadmap. And if “life happens” and you need to alter your plans, no worries ” just come to the next conveniently scheduled clinic.
Program fees range in price from a single 60-minute clinic for $45 to a package of six pre-paid clinics for $30 each. Each clinic will focus on one of four core skills of the game: putting, short game, full-swing irons, or the power game with metal woods.
In announcing the program, Torrey Pines director of golf Joe De Bock said, “These clinics are a great opportunity for active adults to meet other golfers of the same ability for fun, networking and learning the game with our experienced and friendly LPGA and PGA professionals.”
Range balls and clubs are included in the clinic fees and students can learn more and register for a class online by visiting the Golf Shop’s Web site, www.torreypinesgolfcourse.com/freestyle/, or by calling the program coordinator, (858) 452-3226, ext. 224.
In related news, the Torrey Pines Golf Course’s North and South courses are currently closed to the public in preparation for the U.S. Open, June 9 through 12.
The tournament will be played on the challenging South Course, which closed to the public May 21. It will reopen June 19.
Tournament infrastructure will be set up on the North Course, which closed to the public May 12. It will reopen as a nine-hole course in July, and then again as a full 18-hole course in September.
