With the playoffs just around the corner, the local scholastic lacrosse season is winding down for several local teams.
On the girls side, The Bishop’s School came into this week with a record of 11-6-1.
In a 7-6 victory over Santa Fe Christian last week, Sophia Muller, Megan Murray and Elyse Tierney each had two goals, with Paige Garrett adding one.
Junior goalie Felicity Bradley had an amazing game with nine saves, many of them at point-blank range, according to Bishop’s head coach Meghan Carr. Junior Lia Sagerman led the team in ground balls with five.
Bishop’s followed that up with a 10-5 win last Saturday over La Jolla Country Day School.
Emily Johnson paced Bishop’s with a pair of goals, with Murray, Jacqueline Rhodes, Muller, Caroline Markham, Tierney, Hillary Halter, Emily Reit and Garrett each adding one.
At La Jolla High, the Lady Vikings came into this week with a mark of 8-5.
Some key players in recent play have included Mackenzie Gloven and Mia Cohen, both midfielders that are the leaders on the field.
“Our season has been a fight for every win, but because of our small team, every player has contributed to every win, which makes our team a close, strong unit,” La Jolla High head coach Dana Cappello said.
At La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) School, the Lady Torreys under head coach Dave Jenkins scored a 7-5 win over San Dieguito Academy last Tuesday.
Senior captain Catilin Bonacci led all scorers with three goals. Izzy Richardson, Roya Begheri, Jodi Morris and Ariana Elgado were the other scorers for LJCD.
Standouts on defense were Lindsay Nettinga and Elgado.
Goalkeeper Stephanie Rothenberg recorded 14 saves, having her best game to date.
In the 10-5 loss to The Bishop’s School, Richardson and Elgado had a pair of goals, while Rothenberg recorded 16 saves.
On the boys side, The Bishop’s School came into play this week at 11-5.
In action last week, Bishop’s scored a 15-3 win over La Jolla Country Day School. Conner Thomas led the way with five goals, while Mike D. Jensen and Tighe Thomas each added three.
In a 12-8 loss to Santa Fe Christian, Conner and Tighe Thomas scored three and two goals, respectively.
” Editor’s note: La Jolla High and La Jolla Country Day School did not provide information on their boys teams for this story prior to press time.
