The Prospect Lounge & Bar will host a silent auction and fashion show called “Fashionably Lounging to Benefit Kids In Distressed Situations” (KIDS) Saturday, July 19 beginning at 8
.m.
Designers Adolfo Sanchez, Miss Manners, Holly Waters, Amanda Sanders with her clothing line A.D.N.A.M.A., and the clothing line Hard Candy will all participate, said Vanessa Sweatte, Fashionably Lounging producer.
“This fashion show is for Kids in Distressed Situations,” Sweatte said. “This charity is awesome because it has a few areas it works with, including natural disasters and illiteracy. And they are the only charity to donate over $60 million.”
Sweatte said KIDS inspired her to organize this fashion show and silent auction at Prospect Lounge, 1025 Prospect St.
Doors open at 8 p.m., and guests can bid on myriad items for the silent auction. Area companies donated everything from hats to Hyatt hotel stays, she said.
“Within the apparel industry, we’re really well-known,” said Chris Blake, KIDS development director. “This helps to get the word out for what we’re doing. Last year we distributed $67 million worth of merchandise and we got it into the hands of families that needed it.”
According to Blake, the KIDS mission is simple; the organization brings companies with extra supplies together with needy families. Whether the family’s needs stem from poverty, a natural disaster or some other act of fate, Blake said their goal is to help both the children of these families and the companies donating the goods who earn tax benefits.
“On one end we take care of a company’s tax needs, and on the other end we take care of people around the world,” Blake said.
Now the KIDS organization plans to aid Northern California fire victims, he said.
“We do a lot of disaster relief “¦ It used to be something we did occasionally, and now it seems to be ongoing,” Blake said.
A group of corporate executives founded the New York-based KIDS organization 22 years ago, but the charity helps families all over the country and world.
Tickets for Fashionably Lounging cost $20 and are available at the door, which opens at 8 p.m.
The show begins at 9 p.m. For more information about KIDS, or to donate, go to www.kidsdonations.org.
