With CIF playoffs just around the corner, several local scholastic basketball teams are trying to capture league crowns.
On the boys side, La Jolla High (18-8, 9-2 league) went 1-2 in play last week. The Vikings fell to Cathedral 66-58 and The Bishop’s School (non-league game) 54-49, while adding a 57-37 win over Lincoln. In the loss to Cathedral, Spencer Moyer and Matt Jones paced the Vikings with 26 and 13 points, respectively.
La Jolla rebounded three days later in the win over Lincoln, with Jerrell Agnew tossing in 16 points and Peter Sefton adding 10 points and 12 rebounds, Jones nine points and Tyler Heaps eight.
While finishing the week with the loss to Bishop’s, La Jolla clinched at least tie for first place in the Western League a night earlier with the Lincoln win.
If La Jolla wins its final game over Saints at La Jolla tonight, Feb. 14, the team will finish 10-2 and win the Western League outright over Cathedral, which has three losses. If the Vikings lose and Cathedral wins both games this week, the two teams would share the league title with 9-3 records.

In the non-league win over neighboring La Jolla, Bishop’s was paced by Malik Love (21 points), Jywrell Wilson (14) and David Stotelmeyre (11). Wilson tossed in 34 points in the win over Canyon Crest, with Love adding 27.
