Poetry Prize calls for submissions
Teen poets are beckoned to submit entries for the 19th annual Amy Marie Watkins Poetry Prize, a statewide contest hosted by La Jolla Country Day School. The deadline for submissions is Monday, April 24.
The winner will be awarded $100; the runner-up will receive $75. Writers may submit two poems, each typed on a separate piece of paper. E-mail entries are not accepted. Winners will be notified in early June, and their submissions will also appear on the school’s Web site.
The annual poetry contest is held in honor of Amy Marie Watkins, a former student and aspiring poet, who died in an automobile accident at the age of 17 on April 2, 1987.

Landmark gives sequels a second run
For those who wish they could see some of their favorite movies back on the big screen, Landmark’s La Jolla Village Cinemas has answered the plea. This month, Landmark presents its Midnight Madness Movie Series, which will do just that. This year the series is being called “Revenge of the Sequels,” and it will feature some of the greatest follow-ups in film history.
Revenge of the Sequels features classic movies like “Ghostbusters 2” and “Terminator 2: Judgement Day.”
“Its always tough to get people out on a Saturday night, and then to get them out at midnight and then to get them to La Jolla, but all of our other series that we have done in the past have been very successful and I don’t expect this to be any different,” said Brad Hesselbrock, theater manager at the La Jolla Landmark Theater.
In addition to the rare chance to see classic films back on the giant screen, participants will have the opportunity to win prizes in a weekly trivia contest preceding each film. The prizes are provided by Comickaze, Mysterious Galaxy and Off the Record, as well as Landmark Cinemas.
Midnight Madness: Revenge of the Sequels will present shows at midnight on every Saturday through May 13. Landmark’s La Jolla Village Cinemas is located at 8879 Villa La Jolla Drive.
Tickets are $7.25 at the door. For show schedules and information call (619) 819-0236 or visit www.LandmarkTheatres.com.
