Pacific Beach’s latest story is nothing more than the same old story.
Once again the Labor Day boozefest at the beach did not disappoint the masses with its usual carnival-like atmosphere. Large-scale beer chugging games started promptly at 10 a.m., followed by vomiting in the sand well before noon.
There were people cooling off in the water and using the ocean as a toilet at the same time. There were young men using lots of loud profanity to demonstrate their manhood. Apparently they can’t drink without a lot of chest thumping, and hey, who doesn’t love a riot before heading home to sober up?
Contrary to what was reported in the media, the police did not handle the situation well. Sixteen people arrested at a riot? The backup officers showed up much later than was reported in the paper. Councilman Faulconer was smart enough to celebrate the holiday somewhere other than PB’s version of Mardi Gras. He arrived soon after to comment that no doubt alcohol played a large role at the beach. He pointed out the obvious, but getting him to act on the obvious is a different story.
Now it’s time for him to form another committee to go on a fact-finding mission to get to the bottom of all this, you know, like the one we had before he even was elected to anything in this town. There is nothing more pathetic than our councilman, who will not act decisively on anything because he does not want to lose the alcohol vote he needs to get re-elected.
It seems that he has not considered the possibility that his chance to get re-elected has come and gone.
Mr. Faulconer, if you can’t stand for anything, perhaps it is time for you to sit down.
As a native son of PB for 45 years, I chose to move out of the beach to safer, higher ground for my children’s sake. I didn’t want to go, but I felt I had to. Now I live on the hill in a great neighborhood, clean, quiet, no crime. I sleep through the night every night!
How many families feel just like us?
Sober up, PB!
