Attacking the other side
Fortunately, readers will know that the author of the letter “Attack ads on the loose,” (Peninsula Beacon, Oct. 5) was speaking for himself. He has to be because all knowledgeable people know how damaging liberals and liberal Democrats have been to our nation. How can anti-family, anti American traditions not be damaging? And, yes, that is who Susan Davis is and what she believes. Yes, this is a “horror.” Ask her about how she feels about protecting America’s sovereignty and borders.
Common sense values and patriotism will preserve out freedoms and more. Therefore, John “Woody” Woodrum is, by far, the best person not only for the 53rd, but for the nation.
Marie Augustine, Point Loma

Would Point Loma be ignored with Mission Beach crime levels?
What if Point Loma suffered the same abysmally high crime rates as Mission Beach (almost three times the city average and non-violent crimes)?
Would Councilman Kevin Faulconer have decided to form a citizens task force, comprised of residents and business owners from Point Loma, in order to look at the situation “holistically” for the next six months or so? No, in all likelihood he would be moving a lot more quickly – pushing the police department, city attorney’s office and colleagues on the City Council to come up with a plan to help his beleaguered constituents in Point Loma.
So how about crime-ridden Mission Beach? Well, Councilman Faulconer has created a Beach Alcohol Task Force, which will be meeting monthly for discussions on the problems afflicting three unique coastal communities: Mission Beach, Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach. According to Mr. Faulconer, task force members have been chosen for their “very diverse views on alcohol and alcohol issues.” (“Faulconer names names,” Peninsula Beacon, Oct. 5).
Please forgive me skepticism, but I predict that one year from now the pro-alcohol and anti-alcohol factions of this task force will have spent a great deal of time debating each other, with little substance to show for their efforts. And Mission Beach will still be saddled with its disgustingly high violent and non-violent crime rates.
Buz Rahe, Mission Beach
