New Historical Society leader looks to future
The board of directors for the La Jolla Historical Society, 7446 Eads Ave., recently announced that it would be appointing John H. Bolthouse III as the society’s new executive director.
“My responsibilities are many: to help implement the capital campaign, head up fund-raising efforts, coordinate public relations, represent the organization and take care of daily operations,” Bolthouse said.
After majoring in aeronautical studies and history at Northeast Louisiana University, Bolthouse returned to San Diego to attend graduate school at the University of San Diego.
While he was still a student, he served as archivist at the Tailhook Association, which is dedicated to the history and promotion of naval carrier aviation.
He was later named the Chief Operating Officer of the San Diego Air and Space Museum.
“The capital campaign remains my biggest goal because it is going to speak to what the future of the organization is,” he said. “Within the next two years, we are hoping to move to the historical Wisteria Cottage, which will let us provide a new public exhibition area, better accommodations for staff, a robust education program and a climate-controlled archive collection.”

Estancia Hotel offers discounted hotel rates
As part of a “back to school” promotion, the Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa will offer a special rate and a $50 Office Depot gift certificate to Southern California students and families who make reservations and stay before Oct. 31, 2006.
The Estancia La Jolla, 9700 N. Torrey Pines Road, also held a sweepstakes from Sept. 7 through 15 in which students could enter to win $3,500 worth of back-to-school supplies, including a Dell Inspiron laptop computer, an Inkjet printer, a 4GB Apple iPod nano and a $500 Office Depot gift card.
To promote strong academic performance, each year the hotel also awards $1,000 to one employee’s child who has earned a 4.0 grade point average.
For more information about the promotion, or to make reservations, contact the Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa, (858) 550-1000, or visit www.estancialajolla.com.
