There I was, lining up a 15-foot putt on the fourth green at Sail Ho Golf Course. I paused to look out over the commanding view of San Diego Bay and Downtown and the whole scene reminded me that San Diego is a wonderful place to live. It seems to me that we do a lot of complaining about headline issues in our local coastal community. But there is a lot more to appreciate and enjoy than there is to complain about. Sail Ho Golf Course is one of these places to enjoy.
This par-3 course has been on the map for decades but a major renovation was just completed last year. It’s great place to work on your short golf game. Let’s see “¦ nine holes of golf and a delicious meal for about 20 bucks, at a location just as convenient as our airport “¦ it’s a no-brainer. Ya gotta go check it out. I really didn’t appreciate this place until last weekend, when I participated in a group event there with 20 other guys. The manager, Lawrence St. Clair, and his staff really “put it on” for our group. We enjoyed delicious breakfast burritos in the sports bar and grill. Then, the golf pro gave a few free tips at the driving range and the manager set up a closest-to-the-pin contest on the picture-postcard fourth green. Finally, their outdoor patio area is perfect for large groups where you can gather and sip a cold one while watching the hackers come in on the ninth green. We really enjoyed going to a place where the staff went out of their way to make sure we had a good time.
Editor, I appreciate the forum your publication provides for us to expound about whatever is on our mind. I enjoy the opinions I read every week. For this letter, I thought I would write about what I like in the beach community rather than complain, blame or shame. By the way, I missed that putt on the fourth green.
