Garrison Street tradition does not happen on Christmas eve
The recent article in The Peninsula Beacon about the Garrison Street Christmas lights was great (“Let there be light,” Peninsula Beacon, Dec. 14). It did, however, mention that the Ybarra family “” my family “” sells hot chocolate and cookies on Christmas eve. Our kids do, indeed, set up a hot chocolate stand but never on Christmas eve. The kids will be setting up their stand next weekend on Friday, Dec. 22, between 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. The date is different every year, as our daughter coordinates with three of her friends. The charity changes each year as well. Because the kids have a tough time deciding which charity to donate to, each girl puts the charity of their choice into a hat and I draw one, which determines the charity for that year.
The exposure is fantastic as 100 percent of the proceeds do go to charity. The more cocoa we can sell, the better! We wanted, however, to bring this to your attention so we don’t disappoint anyone who might show up expecting the hot chocolate stand to be set up on Dec. 24.
Kyle Ybarra, Point Loma

OB parade a success
A great big shout out to the community of Ocean Beach for another awesome Holiday Parade.
Friends and families gathered on Dec. 2 in Ocean Beach to enjoy the Fantastic 27th annual Ocean Beach Holiday Parade down Newport Avenue. A great time was had by all who watched and participated.
A special big thanks to all the parade participants who made the OB Parade a great success. The streets were filled with lights, music, marching groups, festive floats and lots of holiday cheer.
Congratulations to all!
And lastly, a big huge thank you to all the volunteers who worked endlessly to make the OB Parade one terrific success. The OB Tree Committee thanks every one of you.
Kelly Touhill, OB Parade Chairperson
