PREUSS?ON?PEACE — The National Conflict Resolution Center awarded the Preuss School as the 2013 Local Peacemaker Honoree at its 25th annual Peacemaker Awards. Preuss follows a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum to help low-income students distinguish themselves academically so they will be competitively eligible for college admission. The Preuss School will be celebrated at a dinner on March 14 at the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina. CLUSTERING?WITH?SDUSD — The La Jolla Cluster Association will host a discussion on a clusterwide partnership agreement with San Diego Unified School District on Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Muirlands Middle School, 1056 Nautilus St. The agreement focuses on teachers and principals seeking more local control over public schools. FETE CHINESE NEW YEAR — The San Diego Chinese Academy, located on the campus of La Jolla Country Day School, is celebrating the Chinese New Year — along with the school’s 25th anniversary — on Feb. 24 from 1:45 to 4:30 p.m. The celebration will include a festive “Lion Dance,” class performances, a Chinese Sichuan opera, cultural activities, food and games. The free event takes place at 9490 Genesee Ave. For more information, visit sandiegochineseschool.com or call (858) 205-7322. PHOTO OP — Students from La Jolla Elementary School will host a photo booth at the Children’s Pool on March 3 from 1 to 3 p.m., where visitors can have their photos taken as a mermaid or surfer for a suggested minimum donation of $5. All proceeds from the photo booth will benefit the Beautification of Coast Boulevard improvement plan. CLOTHES FOR CHANGE — La Jolla High School seniors Miranda Ciesol and Arden Kreuzer are coordinating a clothing collection at LJHS from Feb. 19-22. Ciesol and Kreuzer serve on the board of directors of My Girlfriend’s Closet, a nonprofit that aims to improve the lives of young women between 13-22 who are in foster care, homeless or otherwise disadvantaged.
