Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) will host its 15th annual Writer’s Symposium by the Sea from March 24-27 with a theme of “Nurturing the Prophetic Imagination.” The 2010 event brings together poets, environmentalists, theologians and political scientists, who explore global social problems through the lens of ancient Christian narratives. Following the tradition of evening interviews, Writer’s Symposium founder Dean Nelson will delve into the inspirations and experiences of these people who are passionate about bringing change and compassion to the world. The multi-day event takes place at the university, 3900 Lomaland Drive. Tickets are $10 per event. The symposium features: • “A Conversation with Kathleen Norri”: Poet and essayist, author of “Acedia & Me,” “Dakota: A Spiritual Geography,” “Cloister Walk,” and “Amazing Grace: A Vocabulary of Faith.” This portion of the symposium takes place Wednesday, March 24 at 7 p.m. in the Crill Auditorium. • “A Conversation with Michael Eric Dyson”: Sociologist and theologian (Georgetown University) author of “Can You Hear Me Now?,” “Come Hell or Highwater: Hurricane Katrina and the Color of Disaster” and “Holler if You Hear Me.” This portion of the symposium takes place Thursday, March 25 at 7 p.m. in the Crill Auditorium. • “A Conversation with Bill McKibben”: Environmentalist (Middlebury College), author of “Deep Economy,” “The End of Nature, Hope: Human & Wild,” and “The Age of Missing Information.” This portion of the symposium takes place Friday, March 26 at 7 p.m. in the Crill Auditorium. • “A Panel Presentation with Bill McKibben and Emmanuel Katongole”:? Katongole, a theologian and co-director of the Center of Reconciliation at Duke Divinity School, is author of “A Future for Africa: Critical Essays in Christian Social Imagination,” “Beyond Universal Reason” and “African Theology Today.” This portion of the symposium takes place Saturday, March 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ellipse Chapel.
