Bishop’s girls race to top CIF times
The Bishop’s School girls cross-country team brought home the gold last weekend at the CIF Championships at Morley Field. They joined the University City High girls (Division II) and the La Jolla Country Day School boys (Division IV) as team champions.
Bishop’s finished first in the Division IV race, the first CIF title for the girls program. The Lady Knights finished with an impressive score of 35, beating defending CIF champs La Jolla Country Day by 30 points.
Laura Wyatt (second), Elizabeth Schulze (fourth), Naomi Wagner (eighth) and Elizabeth Mills (ninth) were crowned all-CIF with Sarah Bromley (17th), Alicia Triana (19th) and Michelle Wu (43rd) rounding out the team with strong performances.
The girls will go on to the California State CIF championships this Saturday, Nov. 25, at Woodward Park in Fresno.
“The girls have had an impressive season winning the League, Conference and now CIF titles,” Bishop’s head coach Mary Fran Cullen noted. “As we prepare for the state championships, the girls are focusing their efforts on a high team finish (hopes of team Top 10).”
The boys finished sixth in the Division IV race, led by Henry Su (13th), Andy Morgosh (24th) and Alex Meyer (26th). Seniors Tim Stiefler (39th), Stephen Bardin (48th), Patrick Anderson (69th) and Matt Boyle (81st) rounded out the team with strong races.

La Jolla High harriers 2nd in girls action
La Jolla High’s girls cross country team finished second in last weekend’s CIF Division III competition at Morley Field. Our Lady of Peace outdistanced the Lady Vikings 50-55 to win the crown.
La Jolla was led by Nihal Kyali (second), Margot Hedlin (fifth), Maya Gamble (14th), Lily Howard (16th), Tess Plant-Thomas (18th), Meagan Bautista (19th) and Courtney Avvampato (27th).
The Lady Vikings qualified for the State meet in Fresno this weekend.
