A husband-wife dance team will open the doors to a new dance studio on Pearl Avenue starting Sunday, Dec. 9. A Time to Dance will cater to many different La Jollans, from those who want to spice up their routine to more advanced competitive dancers.
“They have quite a big following in North Park,” said Rebecca Bamberger, media spokeswoman. “But they want to cater to many locals, not only advanced dancers but also social dancing.”
Co-owners Angel and Tulane Riviera said that although their background is in Latin dances such as the salsa, tango and samba, the international dancers will teach a “variety of high-quality dance instruction and fun under one roof,” including belly dancing and ballet.
Their goal is to have people come in and feel comfortable, Bamberger said.
The studio in North Park had an open house every few weeks, where people could walk in and take a free class, usually on a Friday or a Sunday, and the owners will carry this tradition to La Jolla, Bamberger said.
The Tulanes will offer many classes, including dancing for engaged couples and classes for children, Bamberger said.
“I think it’s the true passion they have for dance and as a husband and wife team that puts them apart from other studios,” Bamberger said. “They are dedicated to showing their students the moves. Students will get more attention than at other dance studios.”
The team shows passion for the community as well. The Tulanes teach classes to a variety of groups in the area free of charge, she said.
The studio is scheduled to open Sunday, Dec. 9 at 565 Pearl Ave. An open house will take place in the near future.
