Several local scholastic girls soccer teams have had a kick this season with winning marks.
At The Bishop’s School, the Lady Knights are the Coastal South champions for the second straight year, earning the top ranking in the Division IV playoffs.
Bishop’s (13-3-1) went 7-0-1 in league action, finishing last week with wins over Scripps Ranch (5-0) and Horizon (2-0).
Bishop’s head coach Brian Quinn credited the recent play of freshman Laura Aguilar, and seniors Ashley Dominguez and Cassandra Dreher.
“We were thrilled to win league because it gives us home field advantage until the CIF final,” Quinn noted. “Our field at Bishop’s is conducive to playing good soccer, and we are looking forward to the playoffs.”
Playoff action was to start this past Tuesday.
At La Jolla High, the Lady Vikings finished 15-2-3, taking the second seed in the CIFs for head coach Kristin Jones.
La Jolla is to meet Mission Bay, winner of the Mission Bay-Central Union game that took place on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The MBHS Lady Bucs beat Central Union 4-3 in double overtime. The Lady Vikings-Lady Bucs contest will take place at La Jolla High Friday evening, Feb. 22.
According to Jones, key players this season have included defenders Simi Sharp and Tess Plant Thomas along with offensive contributors Callan Parra and Nihal Kayali.
At La Jolla Country Day School, the Lady Torreys finished at 10-8 overall, placing third in Coastal South. LJCD began playoff action on Tuesday against Tri-City Christian, beating them 3-0. Allie Hieb gets the shutout.
According to head coach Dave Jenkins, key players for the team this year have been captains Allison Dorr and Cody Saleh and junior Sierra Ferrierea.
“Allie Hieb and Rachel Locke are freshmen new to the team making significant contributions over the course of the season,” Jenkins noted.
