Peninsula Singers’ inaugural ‘Peninsula Pops’ concert season catching fire

Peninsula Singers is shaking up the Point Loma arts scene with its inaugural community concert series called “Peninsula Pops.” “Peninsula Pops” is more than halfway through its first-ever season, with eight of its 15 performances still beckoning. There are still opportunities to catch the remaining performances at Liberty Station’s The North Chapel. This eclectic season kicked off May 29 at 7 p.m. with a concert featuring new compositions by Point Loma Nazarene University’s composition music majors, performed by their student peers. Performers have included members of San Diego Symphony, singers from San Diego Opera, exceptional jazz ensembles, and world-renowned chamber-music en-sembles. Several spoken-word events have now been added to the musical performances.
General admission is $15; students, seniors and military $12. Upcoming performances
• Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.; The North Chapel, 2881 Roosevelt Road
• Sunday, Oct. 6 at 6 pm; (Love Letters by A.R. Gurney); Crivello Hall at Francis Parker High School, 6501 Linda Vista Road
• Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.; (Stewart Simon on solo piano); The North Chapel, 2881 Roosevelt Road
• Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.; (Popera!); The North Chapel, 2881 Roosevelt Road
• Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.; (Vanessa Dinning: A Bad Day Cabaret); The North Chapel, 2881 Roosevelt Road
• FREE EVENT on Monday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.; (San Diego Opera: A Community Conversation). The program is “Riding Rocinante: Quixotic Wandering in the 21st Century,” hosted by Dr. Nicolas Reveles, San Diego Opera’s Geisel director of education and outreach, with special guest James Stout. Tickets for this event can be reserved by visiting www.sdopera.com/C2/Default. Performance takes place at the North Chapel, 2881 Roosevelt Road.
Tickets for all “Peninsula Pops” concerts can be purchased via the Peninsula Singers’ own website, or via the very detailed website specially created to accompany the series at www.peninsulapopsconcerts.org.
