Several local scholastic basketball teams rebounded with wins in action last week.
In boys action, La Jolla (13-8, 2-2) beat St. Augustine 78-70 in overtime at La Jolla last Tuesday evening, as seniors Igor Seriba and Andrew Heap led the Vikings with 22 and 18 points, respectively.
Jerrell Agnew scored 13, Spencer Moyer had 10, and Matt Jones contributed seven points and nine rebounds.
In action this past Friday night, Mission Bay surged to an 18-7 lead in the first quarter, and La Jolla’s second-half comeback fell short in a 70-64 loss.
Viking Peter Sefton hit four 3-pointers and scored 15 points to lead the way. Moyer put in 12 points, and Heap and Seriba had 11 each.
In action last weekend at The Coaches’ Classic in Carlsbad, The Bishop’s School dropped a 52-46 decision to La Canada, despite 25 points from Andrei Lucas.
Lucas was an even bigger factor earlier in the week, pouring in 31 points in a 94-67 win over Canyon Crest.
The Knights held a commanding 58-33 lead at intermission, a game in which they also got 22 points from Jywrell Wilson.
Finally, La Jolla Country Day School rolled to a 58-42 triumph over Santa Fe Christian last week.
LJCD had three players reach double figures in points in the victory. J’Vonte Brooks paced the Torreys with 20.
In girls action, Bishop’s rolled to a 64-45 win over Canyon Crest. The Lady Knights tallied 43 total points in the second and last quarters to score the win.
Kathleen Roehrkasse paced Bishop’s with 19 points, with Bianca Padilla and Madison Victor adding 17 and 12 points, respectively.
