The twisted story of “From Dusk Till Dawn” will unfold at the Masonic Center Halloween weekend during an immersive dinner-theater production of the classic cult movie. Presented by Shetrick Entertainment, Ocean Beach residents make up much of the cast and crew that will take over the Masonic and transform it into a soundstage filled with sexy dancers, live music, a few fights and a surprise or two. The tale of a road-trip crime spree that takes a turn for the sinister was written by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez and released in 1996. The three shows that will run from Oct. 26 through Oct. 28 will be a return engagement for the Shetrick crew, who have been staging immersive shows for years at the Masonic and produced versions of “From Dusk Till Dawn” in 2013 and 2014. Unlike a typical night at the theater, Shetrick’s immersive productions break down the barrier between stage and audience, at times literally surrounding the audience. Certain seats up front are labelled In the Thick of It, complete with a warning regarding blood splatters and vampires. Guests are encouraged to dress up as bikers or truckers, and actual bikers and truckers can dress as they are. Like anything associated with Tarantino and Rodriguez, R-rated language and flagrant violence make up most of the story. Beer, wine and liquor will also be flowing, so only 21 and older will be admitted.
The shows are a benefit for the Breast Cancer Angels, who provide financial, legal and emotional support to breast cancer patients and their families.
“From Dusk Till Dawn” plays at the Masonic Lodge in Ocean Beach. Showtimes are 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27, and 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28. Saturday is sold out, and tickets must be purchased in advance at shetrick.com.
