PB Pathways fundraiser at Amplified Ale Works on March 16

An event to generate funds for the second phase of PB Pathways, a project to make the beach community more bike-friendly, will take place at Amplified Ale Works, 4150 Mission Blvd., 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16. PB Pathways is a community improvement project sponsored by beautifulPB, a public nonprofit charity formed by a group of PB residents, businesses, and property owners who are collaborating with the local community to create a sustainably beautiful Pacific Beach.
BeautifulPB is working to implement a number of community projects and programs bringing the community closer to realizing a Pacific Beach EcoDistrict.
“We are launching our latest Pathway Ale, a milky stout,” said beautifulPB board member Mike Spangler of Spangler Event Productions Inc., who is promoting the fundraiser. “There are seven local restaurants that carry Pathways Ale (a collaboration between Amplified Ale Works and Karl Strauss) where they make a new brew every quarter. One dollar from each pint goes to Phase II of PB Pathways.”
PB Pathways routes are being implemented in phases. In 2015, Phase I routes had installation of pavement wayfinding markers and destination signage. Curb ramps and enhanced crosswalks were also installed in some locations.
In February 2016, bike lanes and street repaving came to Cass Street in North PB. Eventually, bike lanes will extend south on Cass Street to Reed Avenue. Improvements will continue as funding becomes available and staging with other road work allows.
Pavement markers, signage and road striping are generally easier to implement as compared to other traffic calming measures that require engineering studies and/or infrastructure improvements.
“This year we are heavily concentrating on promoting bike mobility, PB Pathways and the Pathways Ale fundraising component and looking for as much publicity as possible,” said Spangler.
