St. James by-the-Sea has announced its concert series for the 2019-2020 season. This season marks 35 years that St. James has brought internationally, nationally and locally acclaimed musicians to the La Jolla community. This December, rising Irish tenor Emmet Cahill will perform his Christmas in Ireland concert. This musical event will include beloved Christmas carols like “O Holy Night,” Irish classics like “Danny Boy,” and more. The world-class Westminster Choir will perform on St. James’s stage in January. This choir is composed of students from the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. Praised by the New York Times for its “full-bodied, incisive singing,” the Westminster Choir has sung performed and recorded with the leading conductors and orchestras of our time. In March, local choir Sacra/Profana will make its debut on the St. James Music Series with their concert “Looking Up.” In this concert, the choir will perform works on the topic of stars, night time, and celestial bodies. The program will focus on recently composed music and will feature the works of composers such as Morten Lauridsen, René Clausen, Frank Tichelli, and more. The all-male San Francisco-based choir, “Chanticleer,” will perform the concert “Trade Winds” this May. This concert will explore international works, from areas such as the Pacific Islands, Europe, and China, that are inspired by the sea and the spheres. This season, St. James by-the-Sea will also host its popular Compline-by-Candlelight and Choral Evensong programs. These two events are free and open to all.
