With the days of summer slowly winding down, local graduates are busy in preparation for collegiate action this fall.
Among the local grads slated to play at schools across the country this fall on the gridiron is Brooks Beckman (La Jolla High), who is listed as a freshman punter on the fall roster at San Diego State University. The Aztecs open play at home on Aug. 31 vs. UTEP.
Mike Maracle (La Jolla High) is a defensive end at Colorado State University. The Rams will open their season on Sept. 2 vs. Weber State.
Bishop’s School grads Tyler Jemmett and Christian Pulido are on the UCLA men’s water polo roster for the upcoming season. The Bruins open play on Sept. 14 against Cal Baptist.
Over at crosstown rival USC, fellow Knights grads Will Cherashore and Nico Sardo are members of the men’s water polo team. The Trojans open play on Sept. 9 vs. UC Irvine.
Jonathan Sawyer (University City High) is on the UCSD men’s soccer team this season. A sophomore midfielder, Sawyer and the Tritons will take on Grand Canyon on Aug. 24.
On the women’s soccer team at UCSD, local flavor is definitely in abundance.
La Jolla High grads Laura Borenstein, Rachel Lindenfeld and Stacy Johnson join Lauren Segars (University City High) on the UCSD fall roster. The Lady Tritons open up with Grand Canyon on Aug. 24.
