
Several area scholastic football teams saw action in the first full day of play last weekend.
The Bishop’s School made the most of its trip to Hawaii, rolling to a 44-2 win over Maui last Saturday.
QB Tommy Wornham opened the scoring for the Knights with a 2-yard TD run, then added three TD passes. Wornham passed for one score to Tim Costello (40 yards), while Costello added a five-yard TD run.
Saron Hood (5-yard TD reception), Nicky Cox (34-yard TD reception) and Micah Seau (50-yard run) also added scores for Bishop’s.
At La Jolla High School, the Vikings rallied for 14 fourth-quarter points, but it wasn’t enough in a 27-20 loss to visiting Santa Fe Christian.
SFC (1-0) jumped out to an early 13-0 lead before La Jolla struck back. Matt Mulvey connected with wide receiver John Jackson on a 70-yard strike to get the Vikings back in the contest.
Down 20-7, Jerrell Agnew scored on a four-yard run and a 26-yard pass play to tie the contest.
SFC used a fourth-quarter TD to score the victory.
La Jolla will host Valley Center this Friday evening in its next contest.
La Jolla Country Day School dropped a tough 12-7 decision to visiting Meadows School of Las Vegas.
The Torreys got their only score on a 3-yard run by Derek Hatfield.
LJCD visits Vincent Memorial on Sept. 7.
University City High opened with a 14-9 win over visiting Montgomery.
Kevin Kennedy and Alex Scarlett posted TD runs for the Centurions.
UC will visit San Marcos High this Friday.
