San Diegans have endlessly searched for the region’s best Tacos. Now, one thief has his favorite Taco Man. On or around Friday, May 6, someone decided to help themselves to a billboard that was promoting San Diego Taco Fest that was placed at the corner of Mission Bay Drive and Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach.
San Diego Taco Fest organizers and Outfront Media teamed up to create a unique campaign that included a Taco Man character having fun with unique taco sayings. The stolen billboard simply said “Eat me!” Other unique billboard sayings include “I can walk the guac”; “I’m tasty – deal with it”; and “I’m one tasty taco to name a few.” Billboards promoting the event were placed around the county for a few weeks ago. Outfront Media quickly replaced the pilfered PB billboard on Saturday with a different creative feature.
“When Outfront Media developed the Taco Man and fun tag lines, we certainly didn’t take into account that someone might want this for their living room,” said Tim Young one of the Taco Fest organizers. “We would like to offer a reward for any information leading to the capture of the Taco Man bandit, which will include free tacos at San Diego Taco Fest.”
San Diego Taco Fest will take place at Waterfront Park on Saturday, May 21. The festival will feature 20 of San Diego’s best taco-centric restaurants, a lineup of local and national concert acts, live Lucha Libre wrestling matches, and interactive experiences. Oh, and one less Taco Man!
