One of the greatest female athletes to attend Point Loma High School has entered another phase of her life that allows her to continue her love of softball.
Katie McEachern, who turned 24 earlier this month, has been hired as an assistant coach at NCAA Div. I Fordham University in the Bronx borough of New York City. New head coach Melissa Inouye brought McEachern and Matt Klampert aboard to complete her inaugural staff to compete in the 2019 Atlantic 10 conference beginning in February.
“Coach McEachern had a very successful playing career at Dartmouth College and was fortunate to experience playing professional softball in Europe and with the Canadian National Team,” Inouye said. “She definitely knows what it takes to be successful on and off the field.”
After graduation from PLHS in 2012, McEachern received a scholarship to take her glove and bat to Dartmouth University where she became a legendary player at the Ivy League school. While there she won the university’s highest honor, the Kenneth Archibald Prize as best all-around athlete.
She then went to Europe where she played for and coached the professional Skövde team in Sweden before returning to play for the Canadian national team. 
Next up was a graduate assistant position at St. Francis University where she helped lead the team to consecutive undefeated seasons in league play. She also earned an MBA degree while there.
McEachern has earned a spot among the many distinguished alumni of Point Loma High School.
