In a tribute to one of La Jolla’s most beloved celebrities, Legends Gallery will unveil its newest exhibit, “Hats Off to Dr. Seuss,” with an opening-night reception on July 20.
Though he is one of the most well-known authors, Theodor Geisel was able to keep a few things from public view — most notably his secret art and his immense hat collection.
The vault to those hats and artwork has finally been opened for a national tour. True fans will want to get a peek at the never-before-seen treasures featured in the exhibit, which coincides with the 75th anniversary celebration of Seuss’ second book, “The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins.”
Exhibit curator William Dreyer will attend the opening reception, running from 6 to 9 p.m. Guests are encouraged to wear their most outrageous hats for a chance to win a limited-edition print of “The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins.”

The show features artist Saratoga Sake’s technique of bringing out the viewer’s own interpretation of red, white and blue.
