Excitement is already building for the Rotary Club of La Jolla’s second “Laughing Under the Stars” Comedy Gala. The evening will be held Nov. 4 at the La Jolla Farms home of club member Claire Riess.
“Laughing Under the Stars” was conceived by past president Ken King as a way to build an endowment for Rotary’s many community and international services projects. Last year’s sold out event raised more than $70,000. The club expects that the “buzz” from its success will result in another sell out this year. Club member and La Valencia general manager Mark DiBello will provide catering for this year’s celebration, which will be chaired by Russell King.
Rotary is an international service organization comprised of professionals dedicated to making a difference in both their communities and developing countries. The organization currently has more than 31,000 clubs located in over 200 countries.
Our La Jolla club’s hands-on service projects included building playgrounds for San Diego Salvation Army’s Door of Hope and the town of Jeremy, Haiti, furnishing “My First Homes” for former foster youth, building three homes in Tijuana, providing a sailing experience for underserved local youth, and awarding nearly $180,000 in renewable college scholarships.
The Rotary Club of La Jolla meets Tuesdays at noon at La Valencia hotel. Visitors and prospective members are welcome. For further information, visit www.rotarycluboflajolla.com. Where:? 9675 La Jolla Farms Road. When: Saturday, Nov. 4 at 5:30 p.m. Contact: Russell King, [email protected].
