
A large number of Point Loma High football players were recently honored at the team’s annual banquet. The team finished 6-5 and second in Western League (3-1) with big wins against reigning state champions Madison and Cathedral Catholic. Head coach Mike Hastings and his staff of assistants presented the following awards: All-Western League, Offense: First Team: Kyle Grady, Josh Ball, Davey Folsom. Second Team: Brian Yepez, Miguel Rodriguez, Josh Fierro. All-Western League, Defense: First Team: Mathew Faa’lele, Malik Moore, JL Skinner. Second Team: Jake Silva, Anthony Karty, Wes Windmiller. Western League: Defensive Player of the Year: Faa’lele. All-CIF players: First Team Offense: Folsom (second year as First Team) First Team Defense: Faa’lele. Second Team Defense: Skinner Team awards: Scout Team Defense: Meshach Epperley Scout Team Offense: Yepez Special Teams Award: Christian Terzoli Most Inspirational Player: Fierro and Folsom Jimmie Howard “Semper Fi” Award: Grady and Faa’lele Steve Horrow Memorial Award: Rodriguez and CJ Heywood Bob Hammes Most Improved Academics Award: Cameron Auva’a Coach Bill Hastings Specialist Award: Luke Modesto Coach Bennie Edens Award: Ball and Matewos Bogale Iron Jockstrap Award: Yepez College commitments, Class of 2018: Moore has signed a full letter of intent scholarship to play next season at Brigham Young University. Grady has signed a commitment letter as a preferred walk-on at the University of Michigan. Other players are still undecided while others are considering NCAA Div. III schools or junior colleges.
